Women who can, helping women who do. We care about giving and seeing results. The Women’s Self-Sufficiency Initiative is a part of the United Way of Central New Mexico Women in Philanthropy and we focus on empowering women to break the cycle of poverty and by supporting women's employability and access to education.

Impact in the Community

Since 2007, the Women in Philanthropy, Women’s Self-Sufficiency Initiative has distributed $279,000 to improve the lives of women in our community.

 

In 2009

• 70 female loan recipients received one-on-one training and technical assistance; 31 became loan recipients
• 171 children were able to participate in after school learning activities
• 17 women enrolled in the GED program; 4 passed all 5 sections of the GED and 3 are currently enrolled at CNM.
• 49 women participated in 10-week financial literacy training programs; all participants qualified and opened Individual Development Accounts.
