Emergency Food & Shelter program
Central New Mexico Emergency Food & Shelter Program is awarded funds at various times of year through the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP).
Central New Mexico EFSP expects to receive funding as part of the recently passed RESCUE funding package. At this time, the funding amount and the deadline for application is not yet known. Please check back periodically to find out when the application process opens.
Central New Mexico EFSP does have funds available for agencies providing services to people who are southern border migrants. Total funds available for Texas, California, Arizona and New Mexico is $4.1 million. There is no deadline to apply. The National Board chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency consists of representatives from American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; The Jewish federations of North America; The Salvation Army; and, United Way Worldwide.
The United Way of Central New Mexico administers the local program under the guidance of the local volunteer board. The Local Board, made up of representatives from the Catholic Charities, Jewish Federation, local government, Salvation Army, Local food banks, homeless representatives, Red Cross and United Way, will determine how the funds awarded to Bernalillo County, NM are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area.
TO QUALIFY FOR FUNDING
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must meet the following criteria:
· be private voluntary non-profits or units of government,
· be eligible to receive Federal funds,
· have an accounting system,
· practice nondiscrimination,
· have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and
· if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.
Qualifying agencies are urged to apply!
