Joy Barrett - 90 Faces of United Way

"When Joy served on a subcommittee of Women United, she said she was pleased to honor the individuals experiencing homelessness or interpersonal violence, as well as the volunteers. Women United helped her meet the “real heroes” in our community."

Community and volunteering are two passions Joy Barrett shares with UWNCNM. Luckily, she says her employer, WaFd Bank, enables her to combine both.

When Joy served on a subcommittee of Women United, she said she was pleased to honor the individuals experiencing homelessness or interpersonal violence, as well as the volunteers. Women United helped her meet the “real heroes” in our community.

She also recalled when she was able to gather seven boxes of peanut butter for the Family Advocacy Center, was featured on the cover of a corporate annual report for taking her son on a Day of Caring scavenger hunt, and other ways she became more familiar with United Way and community needs through her participation.

She is optimistic about the future areas that we can continue to support. “UWNCNM is big but extremely nimble.”
