Tax Help New Mexico is a free tax-filing resource for people whose household income is $57,000 or less or those who are 65 years or older.

For free tax preparation offered by United Way of Central New Mexico book an available appointment time below. On-site appointments are available at the following New Mexico locations (masks are required and will be provided if needed):

  • United Way of Central New Mexico located at 2340 Alamo Ave. SE, ABQ, NM 87106
  • Drop-Off/Pick-Up at the South Valley Multipurpose Senior Center located at 2008 Larrazolo Rd SW, ABQ, NM 87105
  • Drop-Off/Pick-Up in the City of Raton* -- Arthur Johnson Memorial Library located at 244 Cook Ave., Raton, NM 87740

*Scheduled appointments are for drop-off times between 10 am to 4 pm (last appointment at 3:30 pm). Pick-up will be available for completed returns (5 day estimated turnaround), or an electronic signature option is accessible upon request.

Checklist of Needed Items to Bring

Proof of Identification

Tax payer(s) must have a valid photo ID (Driver license, state issued ID, passport, military ID, tribal ID)

Social Security Card(s)

Social Security number or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) for yourself, your spouse, your dependents or anyone else on your return

Birth Dates

For you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return

Income Forms

Wage and earnings statements (W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc) and Interest and Dividend statements from banks

Expense Forms

All 1098 Forms, child or dependent care expenses (Daycare provider tax id # required), property tax payments

Bank Information

Bring your bank routing and account number for direct deposit (e.g.: blank check)

Proof of Healthcare

Form 1095-A, B and C, Health Coverage Statements or Health Insurance Exemption Certificate (if received)

Married Filing Jointly

Both spouses must be present with proper documentation to complete tax return

Other Documents

A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available, and all other tax-related documents
